pp107-2006 Joseph's Wiki
I'm Joseph Rosa and I live and work in Vacaville, CA. Currently, I teach literacy / reading skills and strategies to inmates whose reading scores are below 4.0 on the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education). I began teaching 4th / 5th combination in the Central Valley back in the 70s. It was a great K-8 school, great principal and staff. However, it was too comfortable and I was 'afraid' of staying there 25 / 30 years and wanted to see some of the world.
I've taught and trained teachers in Lesotho and Kenya (both Peace Corps); Phanat Nikhom Refugee Camp, Thailand; Instituto Chileno-nortamericano, Chile; Binational Fulbright, Egypt; Dubai Women's College, UAE; and at a desalination plant / training center in KSA. I've taught mostly ESL but also mainstream English and reading as adjunct at various community colleges in California and Washington. I've been teaching at Solano Prison for two years, didn't think I'd stay too long but the money's good (very good) and the job's not demanding . . which is part of the 'problem'. I sorely miss working with professionals who work hard, share, help each other, and then again. Hopefully, I hope to develop skills and strategies through PP and through other venues(?)and maybe do some freelance online teaching. I don't know how practical or - more important - how possible this will be, but I'll try.
I came late into this course but I've done quite a bit of the reading and looking into many of the suggested sites up to week 3. I'll start posting reactions today (Friday). Interesting folks here at 107 and familiar faces, which is comforting. Funny, I didn't think I'd like that after PP 100 (too many familiar faces), but I do now.
I've posted the link to my Blog, which needs lots of revision and rethinking. This is my fifth PP class and, as I've stated elsewhere, I find it a bit confusing than the CMS at D2L. (But, then again, I made lots of mistakes and adjustments when I first began PP 100.) I have to make head adjustments here. I was a bit unsteady at first but think I'm getting the hang of it.

Hi Joseph, Vance here. I get email notices when things are changed here, so that's why I'm checking in. Making changes -That's encouraged!!! of course! but I saw that your page had all the stuff below added in at the top. So thinking you might not have meant to leave it there I copied it and pasted it below. Let me know if you need any help here, if you're trying to do something I haven't discerned. If you want to restore things just copy below and paste back at the top. If I removed stuff you didn't really want then just delete these comments and everything below. It's great that you're making the effort!
